WHO ONCE EMBRACED AS LOVERS IN A CURVING
by Perry Thompson

for Cindy Sheehan

who once embraced as lovers in a curving
act like the earth itself lie down now in a weather of worms.

give me back the fingers and toes of my baby, she cries.
his sin was a fingernail on the trigger.

get up from your moon-soaked sleep for there's a party in the streets!
i had quite forgotten the shimmering was only bombs bursting in air.
